Who Gets Cellulite?

Despite popular belief, cellulite is not a direct reflection of the person’s lifestyle. Cellulite is found on more than 90% of women, no matter their shape or size. Scientists think hormones and genetic factors primarily cause cellulite.

Common problem areas for cellulite include the stomach, thighs, and buttocks. However, women also develop cellulite on the upper arms and breasts.

The Physiology of Cellulite

Young woman pinching cellulite

Within the dermis, fibrous bands of collagen called fibrous septae connect the skin to underlying muscles. The septae partition off lobes of fat located in the sub-dermis.

Cellulite forms when the bands of fibrous septae thicken and shrink. This deformity causes the fibers to pull downward where it connects to the skin. This tugging causes lobes of fat to protrude around the septae. This action leads to the dimpled or rippled appearance associated with cellulite.

Cellulite is harmless, but it can be damaging to a woman’s self-esteem. Fortunately, the new QWO cellulite treatment reduces the appearance of rippled skin without painful surgery or lasers.

How Does the New QWO Cellulite Treatment Work?

QWO is an FDA-approved prescription medication. It is the first treatment to gain FDA approval to treat moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women. Like Botox or Juvéderm, QWO cellulite treatment is a cosmetic injection. It is commonly known as the “cellulite shot” and is injected into the dimpled sections of the buttocks.

QWO injections contain Collagenase Clostridium Histolyticum (CCH.) CCH is a naturally occurring enzyme that breaks down collagen in the body. Thus, the formula of the injection targets the collagen in fibrous septae.

When the formula is injected into the cellulite, the enzyme breaks down the collagen-rich fibers that pull down on the skin’s surface, causing the skin to dimple. By dissolving these bands, the overlying skin can smooth out.

QWO does more than restructure fibrous septae. This injection reduces dimpling or rippling and entirely smooths out the skin by redistributing fat cells and stimulating new collagen production.

The Treatment

QWO treatments are fast and simple. The procedure takes as little as 10 minutes. Each visit includes up to two treatment areas, one on each side of the buttocks. Your doctor may inject up to 12 shots per treatment area.

QWO Results

QWO is an effective cellulite treatment, but it does not entirely remove all cellulite. No treatment can completely rid the body of cellulite. However, several clinical studies prove QWO “significantly reduces” cellulite. Patient results can appear in three weeks after their first injection. However, most choose three treatments spaced 21 days apart for optimal cellulite reduction. As with any cosmetic treatment, results will vary.*

Side Effects

QWO injections are a non-invasive cellulite treatment. This treatment is safe and effective for patients of any skin type. Severe side effects are rare. Some people report experiencing mild side effects like bruising, redness, or tenderness at the injection site.

The best way to reduce any side effects is to select the most reputable doctor to administer the injections. During a consultation with Sculpt DTLA, we can explain any risks in detail and assess your injection candidacy.

How Much Does Cellulite Treatment Cost?

The cost of QWO varies. The specific treatment cost depends on several factors like the number of injections you receive and any specials or discounts. If this treatment is right for you, our staff develops a treatment plan that fits your aesthetic needs and budget.
